I am getting frequent burning failures also. The error code I get is EB020B88. So far, I have found no remedy. Therefore, the software isn't of any value to me. Any help would be appreciated. I do think the software presents well and is fairly easy to work with. I enjoy composing movies; however, as stated I've been disapppointed with the burning issue and have started looking elsewhere for other software.

Solved my problem; hope it might help you...
1) i shut down ALL unnecessary processes, especially McAfee
2) i switched to white-coated DVDs. I read somewhere (can't now find the url), that drives that write to DVD-ram as well as other formats need the white-coated DVDs (i used Sony), as opposed to the silver-coated ones (Verbatim, Memorex, HP. [I used Nero, Info Tool, to diagnose my DVD drive.]
3) Changed burn speed to 4x.
I think the most important for me was #2.
Hope this is helpful...
[fwiw: i can't yet do more than 1 copy; if i up the number of copies, the first burns fine but i get an error message after inserting the second disc.]

Error code eb130581 means the DVD disc is full and that is why you get the error near the end of the burning process.
In Powerdirector vs 7 the Smartfit option is not very reliable and the burning process is allowed to proceed even though the file being produced will not fit on the disc. This best way forward is to check the size of the file (ie Required Space) in the Burn window before starting burn. If your disc size is 4.7GB then the maximum size you can burn to it is 4589MB.
Vs 7 has Video qualities LP, SP, HQ and Smart Fit in the Create Disc Preferences. Change the video quality until your Required Space is less than 4589MB.
In Powerdirector vs 8 the situation is much worse. Smartfit does not work at all and there are less choices of video qualities. I am waiting for a further patch before upgrading

Hmmm, AD. I use PowerDirector vs8 and have no problem with SmartFit at all.

The Error code eb130581 happens also if i burn 859MB in a disc size is 4.7GB.
What means?

I am also getting Error code eEB130581. I have been getting it even when the burning process is only 30-something percent complete. The file size I'm pretty sure was less than the "4589MB" stated above.
Where did you get your information AD?
Anyway, it seems to work more often right after I reboot my computer and have a fresh start with everything. It also seems to work more often right after I "produce" my project, then create the DVD.
This problem sucks and any help would rock. Thank you.

I was getting Error code eEB130581 when trying to burn a DVD. Cyberlink got back with me on the subject, gave me some tips, and THEY ACTUALLY WORKED! I only did the first 3 steps. Here is what they wrote:
I understand that you are using PowerDirector 8 version and you are getting error message while buring DVD.
Please follow the steps given below to resolve this issue:
1. Empty the contents of the C:\Windows\temp folder and C:\temp folder, if you have one. Then empty Recycle Bin.
2. Defragment your harddrive. DVD video files are very large and can quickly fill your harddrive to capacity. A fragmented harddrive can cause problems during DVD burning. Make sure to defragment your drive(s) regularly.
3. To avoid any compatibility issues, please close all other software and utility applications including virus scans, screen saver and instant messaging software before you launch PowerDirector.
Now, try to burn a DVD.
If the issue still persists, try to uninstall other DVD burning software like Nero, EasyCD Creator, Direct CD etc. Two burning softwares installed on same computer are known to cause conflict due to common files in them.
Also disable the XP built-in burning software. To disable the Windows built-in burning software:
- Open My Computer.
- Right-click your CD-RW or DVD drive and click Properties.
- Select the Recording tab.
- Remove the check mark from the 'Enable CD recording on this drive' check box.
- Click OK.
Now, close all other software and utility applications and try to burn a new blank DVD.
Please feel free to contact us back for any further clarification or for any assistance related to CyberLink Products. Use the below mentioned link to get back to us for your further queries:

I had the same problem. My workaround was to burn the dvd to a file on disk and then use a second program to burn the DVD. I used ImgBurn http://www.imgburn.com/, an excellent free program to burn the image to DVD.

I purchased the Power Producer & Power director just before christmas. Was able to burn one 30 second DVD - just playing around to learn. Have had this same message ever since and unable to burn anything. have disabled the CD writer as suggested, cleared the temp file. nothing different. not impressed. any more help would be appreciated.
