2) Audio playback while track scrubbing to find a desired point.
3) Having to import media files into PD is a real pain.

I guess of the above, point 2 is the main reason PD is almost impossible to use.

For me what would be nice is if PD raised the bar and offered a pro version of its product to compete with Final Cut or AVID. I know the purpose of Director Zone is to promote creativity and the chance for members to showcase and exchange their work. I applaud that and would not wish to limit freedom of expression, but there is a need for boundaries in an area which is open to people of all ages. I'm sure the vast majority of members don't need to hear this and I hope they do not take any offence.

I have a suggestion for Director Zone. The Holiday Effects link had a really nice and large selection of Christmas items. Now that Christmas is over and I want to work with my Christmas videos I went to the site and found New Years items instead. I was unable to find the previous Christmas items. My suggestion is to leave the Christmas items up longer or else make it obvious where to find them. I am sure many other folks are only now thinking about working with their Christmas videos.

After my selected number of copies have successfully burned I can either close or request to burn more. That's a great idea since it takes an hour or so to compose/produce I can just crank another copy out without having to load a disc burning app. But wait, it wants to compose/produce all over again even though I never left the burn function and could not have made changes. When going back in to modify a custom menu, there seems to be no way to save the change over top of the 1st version. When I modify and select OK, I am asked for a name. A second menu object is created with the recent changes even if I use the exact same name so I end up with multiple object.

What's with the default songs in the menu audio? I can't save my custom audio/songs with my custom menu. With some clips in HD (1080x1920) and a diaporama i wanted to create a dvd and a blue ray with same contents (one SD and the other HD). The BR was good. So i attempt to produce a DVD (on disk directories, not on a dvd media).
1) I tried DVD DL (9,5 Gigabytes) ; PD8 calculates 9,7 Gigabytes at resolution max and did not want to produce the DVD
2) So I tried to use the "intelligent resolution"; PD8 calculates 9,2 Gigabytes, and produced a DVD with a ridiculous definition (something as 200x320) ..... my old VHS was much better ...
3) I tried DVD DL with resolution max, but with dolby 2.0 instead dolby 5.1 ; PD8 calculated 9,2 Gigabytes, and produced a DVD of 8 Gigabytes .... So i can think that my dolby 5.1 was OK, but the calculation error did not permit to create it.

So some ideas


1) It could be interessant to [b]produce a dvd with a calculated size higher than the normal limits with a warning [/b](PD8 does not allow it).

2) It could be interessant to [b]produce a BR on disk directories [/b]like DVD (for BR PD8 wants a physical BR)

3) It could be interessant for DVD and BR to [b]produce[/b] [b]directly ISO images [/b], which can be read using daemon tools (or other software)

4) When producing clips in mpeg2 (or H264) we can define a lot of parameters of the encoders; when producing DVD or BR we cannot parameter encoders (and we do not know the really used parameters). It could be interessant to [b]access encoder parameters on DVD and BR[/b]

5) When the produced DVD (or BR) is too big, it could be interessant to [b]define encoder parameters at chapter level[/b], not at global level. (The bitrate for diaporama can be lower that for animated clips)

6) an interessant possibility when using pictures is to insert them with picture creation date (two or more cameras were used). But, when using Photonow to correct a picture, the creation date is replaced with the date of Photonow use ... It would be very interessant that [b]Photonow does not modify creation date[/b]


7) At the beginning of my PD8 use, i got a lot of crashes; sometimes PD8 could not restart (immediate crash) : so i found that a lot of files was created within C:\Documents and Settings\Myuser\Application Data\CyberLink\PowerDirector\8.0, and after deleting these files PD8 could restart; so i think that [b]a (optional) cleanup could be integrated within PD8 [/b](i think also that [b]work directory could be a parameter[/b]). [i]For information i have no more crashes after suppressing background creation of low resolution clips. PD8 did not work much slower, but was more stable[/i].

8) When producing a BR, it can be very slow, and the given percent is not very significant. [b]So a log saying what PD8 is doing can reduce anxiety[/b]

9) At least ideas from concurrent (Nerovision) can be good : [b]insertion of diaporama for PC with original pictures [/b](very high definition). So a dvd can store their digital photos in original size, with a slide show played on a DVD player.
