Horn Canyon to "The Pines"

Creator's Description

When the guests at the Ojai Valley Inn and Spa request a guided hike, the Hiking Guides have a number of options. The Horn Canyon Trail to "the Pines" is a good option for a moderate to strenuous hike. It begins in a shaded canyons, then leaves the canyon and ascends into chaparral and some incredible views of the Ojai Valley, and on clear days, the ocean and Santa Cruz Island are visible. "The Pines" is a Forest Service Campground. Bark Beetles have killed many of the trees, some have fallen due to high winds. Still it is a nice place to stop after nearly 2,000 feet of climbing. Although this is an "out and back" hike, it seems like two different trails: the descent is much easier and the views are ever changing. This video was shot on a beautiful Sunday in December. Even so, less than a dozen people were encountered; it is also the first time I have seen mountain bikers on the trail. In summary, the trail is uncrowded, affords great views and has a nice destination at its turnaround point. It is best done as a 3-hour hike.
