March 12, 2018 a Spokane County Sheriff's deputy and Spokane Police officer shot and critically wounded a man while serving a court ordered eviction notice. The officers thought they might have seen the butt of a rifle under a blanket on the couch. After giving him warnings about not moving the blanket shots were fired. The victim is in critical condition at an area hospital. Sheriff Ozzie was unable to confirm after the incident that there was a rifle as described by the officers. Later in the evening a search warrant was obrained and a rifle was found in the apartment.
