中風病人常有不同程度的吞嚥障礙，當吞嚥困難發生時，輕則在進食過程不斷發生嗆咳，嚴重則產生吸入性肺炎(約69%)、營養失調進而增加住院天數或導致病情惡化，所以，本院神經科病房於中風患者住院時，將由醫護人員使用三階段喝水測試來區分吞嚥障礙的嚴重程度(無/輕微/嚴重)，並依據評估結果給予適當的治療及衛教
