The fearless Eurasian hornet (with the fabulous name of Vespa crabro) varies in size from 25mm for the worker, while the larger queen can grow to as much as 35mm. She lays just 2-3 eggs per day. Note the protective guards at the entrance to the nest in the hollow. The paper nest is just visible at the top of the screen.
