BY ERIC VANSICKLE -- Cedar Falls High School hosted the Keith Young Invitational wrestling tournament Saturday, Dec. 4, which attracted more than 80 nationally-ranked wrestlers by Intermat and four defending state team champions from two states, including defending national champion Apple Valley (Minn.). The Eagles outlasted Iowa Class 3A champion Waverly-Shell Rock by 59.5 points. Each team crowned five individual champions. Class 2A champion Denver-Tripoli had two individual champions and tied for third with Bettendorf in the team race. The host Tigers had just one place winner, with KC Groomes taking fourth at 160 pounds.
